saint nick’s naughty punch


1 cup sugar
2 cups ginger-flavored vodka
1 pound sweet apples, such as Red Gala, cored and cut into 1-inch dice
1 750-ml bottle champagne or sparkling wine, chilled
1 bottle dry white wine, such as pinot grigio
1 quart apple juice, chilled

Whisk the sugar and the vodka together in a large bowl. Pour into a resealable plastic bag, add the apples, close, and refrigerate for at least 8 hours and up to 1 day.
Pour the apples and their soaking liquid into a large punch bowl. Add the champagne, wine, and apple juice. Serve, ladling some diced apples into each glass.
